BY PASTOR MYCHAL SEMPRUN
He is risen. These might be the 3 most powerful words is history. First Corinthians 15:14 says, "And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless." But why? Why is it so important that Jesus rose from the dead?
Our salvation lies in the power of the ressurection. Everybody dies. This sombering thought is sometimes overlooked. But it's true. So the fact that Jesus died is really nothing new and nothing special. But coming back from the dead? Now that is something different. That is something powerful. See Jesus didn't just die, he overcame death. When he rose from the grave he proved to the world that death no longer has any power. That yes, through Jesus, we too can overcome death.
Now this becomes even more amazing when we remember that the penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23) and that we have all sinned and fallen short of God's standard (Romans 3:23). In short, we deserve to die the death of a criminal. The very death that Jesus died on the cross. But the story doesn't end there! He rose! And by overcoming death, he came back with the promise that we no longer have death to fear. The same power that rose Christ from the grave lives in me and lives in you! Romans 8:11 says, "The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you."
So, let's celebrate those 3 little words. He is risen! Happy Easter, or what I like to call it, Resurrection Sunday!
